Joining Reno Celtic Celebration for the first time this year is
Celtic Spring, 2002 Grand
Champion of the World at the World Championships of the Performing Arts, in
Hollywood winners and in the top five on the first season of America's Got
Talent! We also welcoming back a favorite group from Northern
California, Black Irish Band!
Reno Celtic Celebration
is thrilled to welcome the amazingly talented Celtic Spring.
Celtic Spring is
six siblings, who play the fiddle and step-dance. They are backed by
their mom on the keyboard and their dad on percussion
"The six Wood family
siblings have spent their lives on stage, bringing their unforgettable
performances to live and TV audiences in the millions. They each began
learning the fiddle and Irish step dancing at the age of four years old;
they hardly remember when they did not play the fiddle and dance! The
siblings are also classically trained violinists. This influence has brought
a certain beauty and clarity to their music.
"A defining element of
Celtic Spring is the dual expertise in music and dance. The Wood siblings
are champion Irish dancers, and they have been influenced by French Canadian
and Cape Breton step dancing styles. The tight choreography, powerful
footwork, intricacy and precision of the dancing astound audiences. Just
when the audience might think that they have seen it all, Celtic Spring
erupts into the exceptional feat of dancing and fiddling at the same time!
The band has released
two albums, At the Source and Cornerstone."
Celtic Spring are Elizabeth, Deirdre, Sean, Patrick,

"Hailing
from the historic Gold Rush Country of America, the Black Irish Band
of nineteen years, have a musical style that is as timeless as the rugged
landscape of the west, a tribute to the people whose lives were spent
building the world we now take for granted. The band has a large compliment
of traditional maritime and railroad music, as well as ethnic tunes in their
repertoire. They excel at Irish, Italian, and American folk music with an
assortment of original songs and traditional western ballads. The bands
musical style captures the spirit of the immigrants of this land, the men
and women who tamed the Wild West."
"The Black Irish
Band's
strong vocals and up-tempo instrumentals breathe new life to old songs and
present original material with a distinctive flair. The original songs of
Patrick Michael Karnahan, such as "Whaler's Cove", "When I Held You", and
"The Sierra (the train I ride)", have received considerable airplay on
various folk-rock and public radio stations."
The
Black Irish Band
gained national attention after being featured on CBS "This Morning" with
Paula Zahn and Harry Smith. At the "Festival of the Sea" in San Francisco,
with attendance around 40,000, the band delighted huge audiences with their
eclectic musical style. In addition, the band performed at the North Texas
Irish Faire and the International Celtic Festival in Vail, Colorado. They
continue to draw crowds at Fitzgerald's Casino in Reno, Nevada and the
California Railroad Museum in Sacramento, including a week of concerts at "Railfair
'99".
It has been several years since the Black
Irish Band played for the Reno Celtic Celebration. Welcome back!
