They say it truly takes a village to raise a child, and here at Reno Celtic, the Celebration is our child. We heard from our friends this week at the Scottish American Military Society clued us in to two upcoming events for them. Here they are, to celebration Tartan Day coming up April 6:
Many of us have spent a lot of time reading and knowing the history of the clans in Scotland and the uprising in 1745. I’ve been to Culloden and it’s sobering. Read this awesome article from the Scotsman, where they detail some of the history and talk about the clans being welcomed back into the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle for the first time since the uprising. Awesome.

In addition, the Grand Sierra is offering an identical rate for Friday, January 22, and a reduced rate for Sunday January 24, for those of you who might like to make a weekend of it – Skiing at nearby Mt Rose, gambling in the casino, take in a show, or just relax before or after Robert Burns Celebration. Room Rate – Single and Double – $79.00 (Sun $55.00) plus 13% tax, $15 Resort Fee & $2 Tourism Fee – upgrade to a mini suite in the Summit Tower for $99.00 (Sun $75.00). Additional Adult charge is $25, maximum of 4 guests per room. Check-in time is 3:00pm; Check-out time is 11:00am.
Reservation procedure – Call 1-800-648-5080 and identify your affiliation with “NSSC 2016 Burns Celebration.” Cut-off date – Wednesday, December 23, 2015. Reservations after this date will be based on availability and prevailing rates.
Deposit – A credit card is required when you make your reservation to guarantee the first night’s room and tax. Room, tax and incidentals to be paid by individual.
